Charcoal Drawings

My life has been a bit busy with many of my interests. Between my drawing and painting and knitting and crocheting, I also try to learn the business of promoting my art (and crafts). Recently - out of the blue - I was hired to teach knitting. And I totally love it. On top of that people enjoy my teaching techniques and for me it is great to be among happy souls that are creative, or that are learning to be creative.

So lately, when I am not teaching knitting, I am working on a piece for the Westport Arts Center's call for artists with a theme "Home Sweet Home". Let me tell you, that is quite a tough one. As an artist, I do want to kind of stand out. Which I usually do. However, that can be outside of the NYC art scene quite a draw back. I feel like painting a house and call it "Home Sweet Home" is not just good enough for me. Then my wild mind (I do not want to call my thinking crazy, because it could be demeaning or unflattering expression since any artist's "crazy ideas" should be seen more or less as different and progressive) goes into a high speed and ---- creates art that not everyone can appreciate. It takes a special person to like my work. So if you are that special person and like my art, keep fingers crossed for my drawing to be accepted into the above mentioned show.

"Somebody" Portraits

About two years ago I bought a set of firm pastels. I tried them and I just didn't like them as much as I liked soft pastels. So, I put them aside. Couple of months ago I was drawing with my soft pastels on the paper, which had a smooth surface, this time. But I had hard time to keep the pastels to cling to the surface. I just had to re-color the area several times, whenever I tried to do some blending. It was very annoying. (Who said that art is easy is wrong!)

Few days ago I decided to pull my firm pastels out of a drawer and draw an imaginary portrait. I used a different technique with these pastels and I love to work with them now. I am ready to draw many portraits.

Maybe I should put my soft pastels on the shelf for a while? No, actually I will use both of them at the same time. I like that idea. And I will use a pencil too. And perhaps even watercolor.... and oil stick... and ........ LOL

Above drawing is "Somebody #2" and drawing below is "Somebody #1". I call these portraits "Somebody", because they are actually nobody. Hmmm, should I call them "Somebody Nobody"? They are just figments (is that English-English or American-English or both Englishes expression?) of my mind. And more to come. I love this technique....

CelloPointe

CelloPointe is a company that puts together ballet/cello performances.

I created a drawing inspired by their performance and the drawing now is being used to raise some money for this company. You can donate money to their cause and CelloPointe will send you an 11'x18'' poster, which looks just like the original.

Drawing From My Imagination

I was kind of fooling around today with my pen and paper after I was inspired by some illustrators. I love "LOVE" as a theme and this is one of my takes on love - "Tree Of Love" (there is not enough of love in the world, we could always use some more for sure). Too bad I used a paper just for drawing and not a watercolor, I could color it in. It would look co much nicer.

I guess I should visit my favorite place, an art store, for a perfect paper for my drawing/water color projects.

I Sold My Latest Drawings

I was very happy to learn that I sold four drawings today. Unfortunately, I forgot to take images before I sent them out to a new owner. Silly me. But I still may get some snapshots at a later date.

Pastel Drawing - Stormy Clouds

I have one obsession - looking at the sky. I absolutely adore the clouds. The shapes. The colors. Sometimes heaviness. Other times luminosity. I must be extra careful while driving, because I tend to steal a look at the clouds and it could be.... you know what I mean.

Over the years I have seen many cloud paintings and drawings from other artists. Some exquisite, some pretty bad. I have been trying to get courage to paint or draw clouds for a long time. And in these past few days, it was my first attempt. I think I didn't do too bad, but neither great. I still need to perfect the feel, the colors..... But not too bad at the first try :-)

(I just have to pat my own back a little bit - it is my personal encouragement to do it again.)

Latest News From My Drawing Class At NCC

I know, I haven't written much lately, but.... besides being busy at home with our small family, having part time job and volunteering as a mentor, I am taking also a drawing class. I have mentioned my professor David Boyajian on my blog (HERE) who is responsible for teaching our class and who gives down to earth presentations full of wonderful explanations. Even the least artistic person on Earth will improve drawing skills under Mr. Boyajian's guidance. IMHO (in my humble opinion). He covers it all - object's perspective, proportion, line, vanishing point, contour, contrast, light, shadow, reflection, color value etc. - over and over and over again. It is wonderful to see how everyone is improving with each finished session due to his gentle "drill".

Here, on this web page you can see some of my best charcoal works I drew in school so far. Next time I will post some of my pencil drawings that we had to do as a homework assignment.

Accepted Drawing For 2011 Juried Art Exhibition & Auction in Danbury, CT

As some of you know I have been a “Daily Draw 365” artist since the beginning of this year and in the process, I’ve been thinking about drawing techniques. One day I took my pen and, without lifting it, drew a picture with just one line. Then I colored it in with watercolor paint (which can be seen on my Facebook "Bronislava Art" page). And that is how I started my somewhat whimsical watercolor series “One Line Drawings”.

I saw an opportunity to submit my drawings for a group show of 50 artists. I received the e-mail that one of my drawings was accepted and I would like to share this news with all of you, my loyal followers.

 The show is from September 30 through October 14, 2011 at Danbury Fair – Center Court. On September 30th there will be an Artist Reception from 7pm until 9pm. If you live near by, come and join the crowd of artists. Hope to see you there.

Will My Dreams Come True?

Yesterday, instead of working on my circular 365 daily drawings theme, which I used to post on Twitpic, but nowadays I  just display them on my Facebook page Bronislava Art in my photo albums (or here in my blog), I decided to concentrate on a figurative art. As I watched my DH to take a nap on the porch, I started sketching the outline of his body. Later on I just finished the drawing with colored ink pens and as you can see I wanted the person in the drawing to be anonymous. I wish the viewer to wonder who is sleeping in the lounge chair - is it a woman or a man?
