I have been very busy in the past several years. Not that I do not want to post to my blog anything - I just do not have time. An artist have to create art, and I also have to make "artsy craft" (knitting and crocheting) - because I am so called Youtube Creator - which requires videotaping my work, editing videos, taking images and editing them too, downloading, uploading, marketing, blogging about the videos.... Let me tell you - it is a lot of work, but I LOVE IT. My handmade/rukodelky is giving me a lot of pleasure, just as much as my art. And I also teach - I have a fun group and we work on many projects.

So that is why I have been neglecting writing about my art life.

But tonight, after I returned home from Manhattan where I saw Patti Smith's (yes the very talented singer) photo exhibition (at Robert Miller Gallery ) and who read from her book "M Train" (which was great and everyone totally enjoyed her reading) I checked my e-mail and...... I found out I was yet again accepted to another show. So, I am very excited, because this is what I read at 11:30pm -

"Hi Bronislava 

 Congratulations on being accepted to the AQUA show at the Maritime Garage Gallery. We had a large turnout of work and your pieces 'Aqua' and 'At the Beach' have been accepted. Art drop off begins Monday April 4-6 9am-4pm at the Maritime Garage Gallery 11 North Water Street. 

Please be sure your work is correctly wired and ready to be hung. The reception is scheduled for April 13th 5-7 and we will be sending out more information with marketing materials for you to share with your people soon.

"Fresh Paint" Exhibition At Framemakers in Black Rock, CT

Fate steered my foot steps in a slightly different direction lately. Although I still create art, I also spend a lot of energy on teaching knitting and crocheting - in person and on-line, besides other creative projects and jobs. Actually, I need my day to be a lot longer, or I need to live longer so I can do all I want to do in my lifetime.

Well, a couple of weeks ago I decided to submit one of my paintings for a show. I didn't submit my paintings to any show for quite some time.  It was a last minute decision. Yesterday, the "Fresh Paint" show opened at Maureen Buckley's gallery and frame shop, where again I could connect with my friends and fellow artists and check out their newest paintings and sculptures.

After I chatted for about an hour, caught up on local art news and took few images, I drove to meet another artist, Molly - to visit Open Studios in Bushwick (Brooklyn, NY). But that is a story for another post, right after this one.

My "Hair Styles" At Urban Hair Salon

The other day I was approached by hair salon's owner Michelene. She asked me to display my "Hair Styles" paintings on her salon's walls. What could be more appropriate place to hang my "ladies" than at a hair salon? This quaint establishment's name is Urban Hair & Co., which is located in Fairfield, CT.

Another Art Show In Hamden, CT

Dear Diary,

I am sorry I haven't written anything in you for a while.....

That is how I should start my post tonight. I have been so busy lately, that I haven't kept up with my blog. I had 4 shows within 4 or 5 months. And two days ago I received a call: "Would you want to exhibit in medical offices in a near by town?"

I graciously accepted, as it will make me feel great that all visitors will "stare" at my art while waiting in the waiting room and wonder what my paintings could possibly mean.

So, tomorrow I am hanging twenty or so pieces, and besides that I have to get ready for another submission. Busy, busy, busy....

Oh, and I have been knitting and writing patterns too. That is my other vice, art is the first one.

I desperately need lot more hours to my day. I really do. Not enough time for all my ideas, and projects... sigh

Below are my thoughts on my "SHAPES" show.

“I was always mesmerized by shapes and outlines. They are usually a part of any art expression. In my latest drawings I take two or more abstract shapes and connect them, entwine them, and, by layering them, make them appear 3D. What is most amazing is that there is such a vast number of possibilities. The “Shapes” series is based on one drawing style, yet each piece is very different from the next one.

One of the inspirations for “Shapes” is the great Dutch graphic artist, M.C. Escher, whose very complex black and white pencil drawings I admire so much. “Shapes” is influenced by nature, such as clouds or stones, twigs in the forest, or maybe even microscopic bone tissue. You can see the shapes are tangled together and even occasionally connected with what appear to be unraveled pieces of yarn - an idea borrowed from my other passion, knitting.

 My desire is for you to look at my pencil and charcoal drawings and try to “connect” the shapes that you see with ordinary objects from your own lives. My satisfaction with these drawings, which I hope you will share, comes from having turned a chaos of disconnected and jumbled shapes into a balanced and orchestrated series of compositions. I will have been successful if you experience the same peace of mind in viewing this series of drawings as I experienced in creating them.”

Westport Art Center - The Show Where You Could Not Move

The opening reception for the show "Foodies" in Westport Art Center was something "else". You almost thought that you are in Manhattan. It was very crowded, cool, hip and artsy. No one had to drive for an "hour plus" to NYC to enjoy the best of the best art creations, to have a fun, or to catch up the latest news with friends. My dearest family, my friends and I saw a lot of quality art.

If you haven't seen it and you live in the area, visit this well run art center. The show will be open until first week in November.

Eva - My Submission Painting For WAC Called "Foodies"

Tomorrow, I have quite a busy busy day. First, I am attending a four hour class in the morning, and in the afternoon I have to take my "Eva" (the painting on the left) to the Westport Arts Center. Hopefully, it will be accepted into a show called "Foodie". There are a lot of very talented artist living in this area, so my chance is very slim.

Art In The Country - Juried Regional Group Exhibition

Great news today. One of my paintings has been accepted to another show with Easton Arts Council in Easton, CT. Opening Reception is May 12, 2012 in Easton Library Community Room, Easton CT 7pm-10pm.

The juror was Daniel Mark Duffy, an achieved artist. Time to celebrate again. Yey!

What a wonderful evening at the Westport Arts Center last night. It was a "full house" of artists, art lovers, music, food and wine. I want to thank all my friends who attended the "Love: In The Eye Of Beholder". You all made this exhibition to be so much more special.

Westport Arts Center - 2011 Group Members Juried Exhibition

When the Westport Arts Center announced an opportunity for a new submission, “2011 Group Members Juried Exhibition – LOVE," (juried by Whitney Museum of American Art Curator, David Kiehl), I knew I wanted this piece to be different. Many ideas were popping in and out of my head, but nothing satisfied my desire to start. That is until TheNew York Times posted an article entitled, "In Afghanistan, Rage at Young Lovers," at the end of July. Suddenly my main idea started to unfold.

There are many "modern day Romeo’s and Juliet’s" in the world, where true love takes a back seat to the needs of the family, or the government, or the church, and where no one seems to care how young people feel or what they think. Someone else makes the decision for them. If they rebel, or try to run away and get married secretly, they may be caught and subjected to various forms of punishment, including even death. As I started to research what these young people have to go through, I came across a lot of material, including videos of extreme brutality on YouTube. With some of the material from the internet, words and images included, combined with my thoughts and a bit of my art, "FORBIDDEN LOVE" came to life.

Accepted Drawing For 2011 Juried Art Exhibition & Auction in Danbury, CT

As some of you know I have been a “Daily Draw 365” artist since the beginning of this year and in the process, I’ve been thinking about drawing techniques. One day I took my pen and, without lifting it, drew a picture with just one line. Then I colored it in with watercolor paint (which can be seen on my Facebook "Bronislava Art" page). And that is how I started my somewhat whimsical watercolor series “One Line Drawings”.

I saw an opportunity to submit my drawings for a group show of 50 artists. I received the e-mail that one of my drawings was accepted and I would like to share this news with all of you, my loyal followers.

 The show is from September 30 through October 14, 2011 at Danbury Fair – Center Court. On September 30th there will be an Artist Reception from 7pm until 9pm. If you live near by, come and join the crowd of artists. Hope to see you there.

The "Summer Time" Exhibition - Wilton Library

When I saw the call for artist for "Summer Time" exhibition in Wilton Library, I had a flash of children playing in the meadow, and children going to a carnival, and children splashing in the water on the sea shore, and having a clown juggler over for their birthday...
So for this show I decided to create a couple of pen and watercolor "free hand" drawings with children in mind - "Girl With Flower" and "Juggling". Below, you can see images from today's reception for two months long art exhibition.

Easton Arts Council Exhibition in Easton Public Library in Connecticut

Recently, I submitted two of my paintings for a group show to Easton Arts Council in Easton, CT. Nancy P. Gladwell, MFA, juried the show. I was happy that my painting “Fire” (on the left) got into the show. My painting hangs in the main building of the Easton Public Library until May 21, 2011 or until someone buys it. Funds raised at this exhibition will be used to promote the arts in Easton and for the Easton Library (691 Morehouse Road, Easton, Connecticut).


So, support the arts people :-)

Upcoming Show - Easton Arts Council: "Art in the Country"

Well, I have gotten into another show in Connecticut. One of my newest paintings "Fire" was accepted into a show called "Art int the Country", organized by Easton Arts Council  from May 9 through May 21, 2011. More info HERE and HERE.

As you may have noticed I love strong and vibrant colors. Actually, I love my life to be strong and vibrant too, that is when I get out of my living quarters :-)

Drawn Away And Drawn Toward - Reception

Despite the bad weather and that the show was during the week, when people are busy with responsibilities, my "hard core fans" came to celebrate my first solo show. We talked about art and traveling and food and you name it.
It was a very relaxed evening and everyone enjoyed the "escape from obligations". The only drawback was that I left my camera chip at home, and had to take at least couple of images with my cell phone camera. Better than nothing, right?

Art Hanging With Friends In Danbury CT

For few days I worked on my show (price list, labels, framing, etc.) and today "D" day finally arrived. My three friends (Helenka, Karolina a Stana) were ready to help me hang all the paintings and drawings. I think that at first they were a little reluctant to make decisions, but I told them that what ever they will decide will be a great choice. And let me tell you - I could not have a better "Art Hanging" crew! They measured, help me make decision how and where to hang all the paintings. I could not be luckier to have such great friends.
As we brought all the paintings in, we were getting pretty good raves - "ooohs and aaahs" and "this is so different" and "these paintings are awesome" and "they are very cheerful". (To tell you the truth I really do not want to sell them. My husband and I grew kind of attached to them.)
